We also offer 0% finance to help spread the cost.
Yes, all Volt bikes electrics are safely housed to protect them whilst cycling in even the worst weather.
It is essential however that after riding in wet weather to remove the battery and dry the battery housing and terminals with a cloth or towel.
(Don’t fully submerge the bike in water or wash your frame using a pressure washer.)
All our e-bikes are available on the Cycle to Work Scheme. Use the form on our Cycle to Work page or call us on 020 7378 4728.
In Great Britain, if you’re 14 or over you don’t need a licence to ride electric bikes that meet the EAPC requirements. E-bikes do not need to be registered, taxed or insured. The EAPC requirements are:
1. The bike must have pedals that can be used to propel it
2. The electric motor shouldn’t be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15.5mph
3. The motor shouldn’t have a maximum power output of more than 250 watts
When you pedal, the motor is automatically activated and will give you an appropriate amount of power depending on your pedalling.
The Volt SpinTech™ technology has 4 power levels of electric assists and an Automatic mode. Each level increasing the assistance from the motor. Level 4 can take you up to 15.5 mph. So when going uphill, move to a higher power level and enjoy!
The power options are controlled via an LCD computer which is conveniently placed next to the handle grip. You can change the motor assist level by using the up and down buttons on the display.
The battery has four LEDs to show you the amount of charge left, you also have a digital reading on the LCD display. However if you run out of battery you can also pedal just like a standard bicycle.
Regenerative braking is not currently viable for bicycles. Some products may advertise the technology, however you will find that it increases weight, complexity and cost not to mention the amount of energy recovered is usually less than 2%. We are closely monitoring the technology at Volt so that when it becomes practical we will be among the first to feature it. However Volt batteries can take you from 50-80 miles allowing you to tackle even some of the bravest commutes.
The expected lifespan of a Lithium-Ion battery is between 2-4 years. After 4 years, you should replace your battery and responsibly dispose of your used one following the latest UK government guidelines.
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries will gradually lose their capacity to hold charge over time. This loss of capacity cannot be reversed. As the capacity reduces, the expected range of the bike will decrease. If your bike is achieving less than 80% of the range you could achieve at the time of purchase, it is time to replace your battery.
Our batteries will charge from completely empty to full in 3 hours* and cost 6p per charge.
You can buy new batteries on our accessories page here or over the phone on 020 7378 4728. Batteries are available as a Standard (up to 60 miles) for £330.00 or X-Large (up to 80 miles) for £590.00. Batteries purchased on our website come with a 1 year warranty
Cold weather can have a slight impact on the voltage of a battery. Batteries are chemical devices, and all chemical reactions depend upon heat for their efficiency. During the colder times of the year if you keep your battery indoors in a warm room and put it on the bike for travel, you should not encounter any problems.
Best practice is to charge the battery after every use. You should never leave your battery uncharged. The Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries used in the Volt range of electric bikes do not suffer from the memory effect.
‘Memory effect’ or ‘floating voltage’ are the common terms used for voltage depression which is usually associated with Ni-Cad and NiMH batteries. The effect is that the battery fails to deliver its original full capacity, seemingly to have ‘remembered’ previous part charge levels.
You do not! Our batteries have a port on them that allows them to be charged while still on the bike.
Our batteries lock into the bike with a key. The battery also detaches from the frame so you can remove it from the bike when locking it up, if you choose to.
All our batteries come with at least 2 keys. Allowing you to keep a spare in a safe place in case you misplace your primary key.
Yes, and we strongly recommend your bike is insured. For that reason we are partnered with Laka who provides a 30-day free insurance trial when accessing the site on my.laka.co/volt. We also offer an additional lock for £30.00 which will guarantee your bike is insurance approved with Laka.
Never clean the bike with a power hose, use a damp cloth and dry down after cleaning.
Before cleaning your e-bike it’s good practice to remove your battery. The cleaning process is just like cleaning a regular push bike. It’s best to use a bike cleaner like the one in our Muc-Off bundle or just a warm damp cloth.
Be careful to avoid the electrics & battery terminals. Never use a high-pressure cleaner to wash your electric bike, it could damage the electronics. Never fully submerge your electric bicycle in water.
